Yes, since the hazelnuts are a good source of food for deer, we would recommend fencing or protection in some manner until the trees are sizeable enough to withstand deer browse.

Since this needs a pollinator do I need a different variety of hazelnut or will two of the same variety work for pollination?

The same variety is fine for pollination, you just need more than one plant of the same variety.

Can this be potted?
Question by: Chris Cejka on Apr 4, 2021, 12:36 AM
We do not recommend potting shrubs or trees from Chief River Nursery. These are plants which really want to be planted into the earth. We have a limited guarantee which extends through June 30 of the planting year. However, if planting into pots, the limited warranty is void.

Can I use tree tubes on hazelnuts?
Question by: Larry Blanton on Feb 24, 2022, 3:46 PM
We would not recommend using on shrubs, since the width of the plant will outgrow larger than the tube size. You may use for a short time period if you like, and then take off before the shrubs get too wide and use it on another plant if you would like.
