Dawn Redwood

Metasequoia glyptostoboides

The Dawn Redwood is a deciduous, coniferous tree which requires a large space. Conical shaped, excellent landscape specimen with light green, feathery, fern-like foliage in spring, maturing to deep green in summer. Exquisite bronze-red autumn color before the foliage is shed by this tree. Attractive bark is red-brown and deeply furrowed. Fluted trunk. Tolerant of deer, air pollution, road salt and wet soil.

Native to China. Once thought to be extinct, it was found in China in 1941 and introduced into the United States in the late 1940s.

Any resources on vulnerability to black walnut/juglone tolerance?

The Dawn Redwood is not juglone tolerant.
