Tulip Poplar
Liriodendron tulipfera
This tree is named for its tulip-shaped leaves, flowers and fruit. After leafing out, 2" yellow and orange showy flowers appear. Upright cone-like seed clusters persist into winter. This poplar attracts pollinators, birds and small mammals. Deer resistant.
A consistent supply of moisture is necessary; the tree will suffer from leaf yellowing when planted in a dry site. Tuliptree prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils, but are tolerant of more alkaline soils
