Hybrid Willow

Salix alba

Speed is the name of the game with the Hybrid Willow, with reports of these trees growing 2 to 5 feet per year! An extremely fast grower, this selection can live a long life despite its rapid growth. The Hybrid Willow is an upright tree with a crown, not a weeping form. This tree will grow about anywhere there is moisture. Makes a very quick tree line or privacy coverage. This willow is excellent for moist locations such as stream banks or low lying areas on your property.

We offer these trees as rooted cuttings. The Hybrid Willow is an extremely fast growing tree. There are reports that some trees have grown nearly 15' in one year with the right conditions. This tree is strong and withstands extreme weather even though it is a fast grower. These disease resistant trees will grow in moist soil types and moisture situations.  This is a great choice if you are trying to dry out a boggy area. These Hybrid Willow trees will also grow in nearly standing water.

Common uses for the Hybrid Willow include:

  • Fast growing privacy screen or windbreak
  • Will help block dust, wind and noise quickly
  • Great for wet areas of your property or boggy areas you want to dry out
  • Multi-stemmed tree makes an excellent privacy row

The Hybrid Willow has minimal wildlife value although birds will use it for basic cover, shelter and roosting.

I ordered 50 of these to plant in a marshy area. The area is heavily browsed by deer. Do I need to tube these trees?
Question by: Derek Deshler on Mar 24, 2023, 8:04 AM
Hello, the deer do not typically browse this tree. However, deer are wild animals and we cannot promise they will not try your trees.

Do the roots travel a long distance like weeping willow?
Question by: Richard Thompson on Apr 7, 2023, 8:17 AM
The Hybrid willow will have a root system that is typically the width of the canopy. It is a very fast growing tree and it is also are a great choice for planting for erosion control. We would recommend not planting near a driveway or sidewalk or close to a building.
